Capt. Dara Fitzpatrick

Capt. Dara Fitzpatrick served for ten years with the CHC Coast Guard helicopter (Rescue117) based at Waterford Airport.

Many people in Waterford and the Southeast fondly remember Dara, so we couldn’t think of a better way to honour her memory as well as doing something very positive for charity. The idea came to us in traditional Irish fashion, around the kitchen table, and when we thought of it we knew it had to be done.  That was early April and we thought it too soon to talk to anyone in Irish Coast Guard, so it was couple of weeks before we approached Capt. Barry O'Connor who was immediately very enthusiastic and came on board. The next person we wanted on the core team was Winch Operator Neville Murphy, who was only too delighted to join.

Throughout the organising of the run Dara's sister, Niamh Fitzpatrick, has been in constant contact and has been a great support and inspiration to the team.

Running down the runway used by Dara for the ten years she was based with the Coast Guard helicopter “Rescue 117” at Waterford Airport is a fitting memorial to the beautiful girl, colleague, friend, sister, daughter, mother and hero we lost on 14 March 2017, along with her crew of Rescue 116, Captain Mark Duffy, Winch Operator Paul Ormsby and Winchman Ciarán Smith.

Our mission is to "preserve the memory of Capt. Dara Fitzpatrick". The Memorial Run strives to serve as selflessly as Dara served her community.

Help us to support the work of Our Charities (Touching Hearts and SEMRA) by registering to run today!

It is our honour to donate our time to organizing this memorial run. As a result we hope to be able to donate 100% of the funds we raise to our beneficiaries.

We would also like to acknowledge and thank the great support of Waterford Airport, Irish Coast Guard, CHC Ireland and Waterford Airport Business Park.

Everyone is welcome to take part in the event, which weaves through the environs of Waterford Airport and Waterford Airport Business Park on 16th September 2017. The Run start is 10am sharp. There will be prizes for the fastest male and fastest female across the finish line.

We can’t wait to meet everyone on the day and thank you all for your kind support.
